League Overview
Seasonal team league supporting New Hanover County and the immediate area for members of the Cape Fear Pickleball Club. The league has 2 divisions. Each division has 8 teams. During the season each team will play every other team in their division.
Event Format
Each event will have 8 matches.
Competitive Division
2 – Men’s Doubles
2 – Women’s Doubles
2 – Mixed Doubles
1 – Open Doubles
1 – Open Singles
Social Division
2 – Men’s Doubles
2 – Women’s Doubles
4 – Mixed Doubles
All Matches will be best 2 out of 3 games to 11. The first 2 games will be win by 1. The final game if needed will be win by 2.
All Match scores will be recorded and submitted to the league. All competitive scores will be entered into DUPR.
All members of a team must play in at least 1 match if they are present and dressed for the event.
Event Equipment
Nets
Team captains will be responsible for setting up and breaking down nets prior to event starting time.
Balls
The league will provide team captains with new balls prior to each event. Please provide all balls (even broken balls) to league representative at the end of each event night.
Event Scoring
Teams will receive 1 point for each match they win. The team with the most points at the end of the event is the winner.
Tiebreaker format
- If after all eight matches are played and the score is tied, a final tiebreaker game will be played to decide the match winner.
- Open Doubles – Captains Pick. Captain’s will pick 1 player from each team. Final game will be to 11. Win by 1. * The player must be present and not injured.
Match Forfeiture
- If a team does not have enough players for a match, the team will forfeit that match. For instance, it is a game of men’s doubles and the team only has 1 male present.
Recording Scores
Scoresheets will be provided to team captains. All match scores will be recorded on the score sheet and provided to the league following each event.

Season Scoring
Season scoring will consist of 2 components: Event Points and Participation Points. The league winner will be the team with the most event points and participation points combined.
Event Points
The combined total number of points a team wins at each event.
Participation
League participation is crucial to league success; therefore, teams will be rewarded for ensuring they can attend all events in a season and penalized if they cannot.
- If a team cannot participate in a weekly event and provides the league commissioner 24 hours’ notice, forfeiting team will not lose any points. Opposing team will gain 8 event points and 1 participation point.
- If a team cannot participate in a weekly event and does not provide the league commissioner notice, forfeiting team will lose 3 points. Opposing team will gain 8 event points and 1 participation point.
Event Participation Points
- Full – Teams will receive 1 participation point for each event where they participate in all matches.
- Partial – You come to play, and can play in 5-8 matches (Zero participation points awarded).
- Partial – You come to play, and can play in 1-4 matches and let the league no 24 hours in advance. (Zero participation points deducted).
- Partial – You come to play, and can play in 1-4 matches and did not provide notice (1 participation point deducted).
- Forfeits with notice – (1 participation point deducted).
- Forfeits without notice – (3 participation point deducted).
Season Participation Points
- Teams will receive 3 bonus participation points for participating fully in all 7 events. *A team could receive a maximum of 10 participation points in a season.
Tiebreaker format
- If at the end of the season teams are tied based on total points, the following will be used for tiebreaker criteria. This will also be used for playoff seeding.
- Highest # of Wins
- Highest positive Total Match Points Differential
- Highest Total Participation Points
- Highest Total Match Points Won

Team Captains
- Communicate with league in advance if there is a need to forfeit.
- Making sure team shows up.
- Arriving 15 minutes early to set up nets for events.
- Assigning players to matches.
- Recording and submitting scores at the end of an event.
