City of Wilmington Health & Fitness Expo- Saturday, September 24th at RSP from 10 am to 1 pm. The CFPC Outreach will have the upper six courts along with a table providing information, basic rules, and possible vendor participation.
The Cape Fear Pickleball Club Outreach effort is on the move and we need volunteers for our next event on Saturday, Sept. 24th at RObert Strange Park. The City of Wilmington is putting on a Health and Fitness Expo at the park from 10 am-1 pm and we have the upper courts allocated to the Club to introduce pickleball to attendees.
We have opportunities for club members to volunteer in 1 hour time slots (10-11, 11-12, 12-1) for the following activities. (And you can volunteer for as many time slots as you want!)
1. Demonstrate how pickleball is played (so all you need to do is play like you normally do—but no swearing just this once!) so people can see both competitive and social play. We’ll use 2 courts for this so we’ll need 8 players at a time.
2. Do some low key training on 2 “See It, Try It” courts. We’ll need volunteers to cover the basics of bouncing the ball on a paddle to get the feel for it and to develop a little control, do some dinking, then move to some volleying, then hitting some longer balls, then some serving and maybe even a game based on the skill levels of those on the court. We’ll have to be flexible in all of this with the major goal of the participants having fun. We’ll need a minimum of 2 volunteers per court or a total of 4 volunteers at one time.
3. Do some specialized activities, with one court just for younger kids and another with the ball machine if we can line that up. We’ll need 4-6 volunteers to handle both courts for each time slot.
If this sounds like something you can do please email Lib Wanner at libwanner@gmail.com and let me know what time slots and courts work for you.
We’re building some momentum in the downtown Wilmington community and this event will add to it. Sure hope this is something that will work for you to participate in as we grow our sport!
